The Mile Zero Monument marks the beginning of the Mackenzie Highway which runs north from Grimshaw, Alberta to Hay River and Yellowknife in the Northwest Territories, a distance of 632 miles. The first tractor train to Yellowknife assembled in Grimshaw in 1939 following the route of the Battle River Trail established in 1914.
