Cache Around Town
Treasure Map

Welcome!

You've just logged on to the latest site devoted to the growing hobby of
geocaching: a unique cross between orienteering and a treasure hunt. Check
out what we have to offer. We have a growing list of activities and
locations for you to explore.

What is Geocaching?

Geocaching is an entertaining adventure game for gps users. Participating in
a cache hunt is a good way to take advantage of the wonderful features and
capability of a gps unit. The basic idea is to have individuals and
organizations set up caches all over the world and share the locations of
these caches on the internet. GPS users can then use the location
coordinates to find the caches. Once found, a cache may provide the visitor
with a wide variety of rewards.

What is GPS?

GPS stands for Global Positioning System. This system consists of 24
operational satellites in six orbital planes (four satellites in each
plane). The satellites operate in circular 20,200 km (10,900 nm) orbits at
an inclination angle of 55 degrees and with a 12-hour period. The position
is therefore the same at the same sidereal time each day, i.e. the
satellites appear 4 minutes earlier each day. Hand held GPS units consist of
antennas and receiver-processors that receive and decode signals from the
GPS satellites to provide positioning, velocity, and precise timing to the
user.

What is a Virtual Cache?

A virtual cache is an existing landmark, such as a tombstone, cairn, stop of
interest, or statue. There is nothing new actually hidden at the site, so
don't start digging! (Even regular geocaches are not supposed to be buried.)
You have to answer a question from the landmark and let the "cache" owner
know as proof that you were there.

Take an armchair Virtual Cache Tour!

You can be an "armchair cacher" and follow these virtual cache tours right
from your computer. There are special on-line offers and prizes to be won.
See the entry form at the end of each tour for details.
